Twitter experienced another outage.

Many Twitter users are currently experiencing difficulty accessing the platform, with some encountering error messages and others being signed out. Some users report that they are unable to see replies or follow trending topics, and others are seeing the error message “rate-exceeding limit”, which suggests that Twitter’s servers are overwhelmed. The hashtag #TwitterDown is trending on the platform.

The outage appears to be affecting users in various countries including the UK, Canada, Germany, Italy, and India, and it also appears to be affecting TweetDeck, a service for power users. Third-party web monitoring services have confirmed reports of the outage, which started around 4pm Pacific time, but Twitter has not yet acknowledged the issue.

Twitter was recently acquired by Elon Musk for $44 billion, and Musk has been working to reduce costs and improve the user experience on the platform by eliminating employees and removing bloat code. Musk tweeted on December 24 that the service was operational “even after I disconnected one of the more sensitive server racks”. It is not clear if the current outage is related to internet disruptions or filtering at the country level.
